The Crop Doctor team from the Bihar Agricultural University continue to utilise a range of social media tools including What's App and Facebook to assist smallholder farmers in the correct diagnosis of plant diseases and pests. This is proving to save farmers thousands of rupees by avoiding unnecessary spraying of crops, whilst providing farmers with the skills to better diagnose and manage such problems before they impact on crop yield. Farming women in particular are benefiting from the increased access to information via mobile phones, sharing such resources within their local village communities.
