Jute farmers who have been involved in the Australia-India Council supported program delivered by International Agriculture for Development in collaboration with UBKV and Satmile SSCOP were able to achieve a 20% yield increase over conventionally managed crops. Both yield (height) and the quality of the jute were found to be significantly higher!
The success was due to farmers following correct corp protocol, including line sowing with a seed drill, and best management practices in relation to weed control and fertiliser use. Well done to all involved, a big impact for smallholder farmers in the Cooch Behar district.
